Dates and locations for the MCofS 2012 Youth Climbing Series have just been announced.

Scotland North

R1: 21^st January 2012 Avertical World, Dundee

R2: 4^th February 2012 Inverness Leisure Centre

R3: 25^th February 2012 Transition Extreme, Aberdeen

Scotland South

R1: 14^th January 2012 EICA:Ratho

R2: 28^th January 2012 The Peak Stirling

R3: 18^th February 2012 Glasgow Climbing Centre

Having listened to your feedback we have now included Dundee in the Scotland North region to reduce travel times/costs.  We have also moved the qualifying rounds to January and February so that those qualifying for the regional teams have an opportunity to follow a training programme devised by ReAch Climbing Coaching in the run up to the finals.  ReAch coaches and associates will also be working with us this year setting all the competitions and being on hand on the day. 

In addition, following discussion with our BMC counterparts, we have adopted the IFSC competition categories:

Youth E – 8/9 (YOB 2004/2003)                  

Youth D - 10/11 (YOB 2002/2001)

Youth C – 12/13 (YOB 2000/1999)             

Youth B – 14/15 (YOB 1998/1997)

Youth A – 16/17 (YOB 1996/1995)

This means that 17 year olds can compete in the series for the first time and that the age gap between competitors will be no more than 2 years.  This is a very exciting change and the first major overhaul of the competition so please bear with us should there be any teething problems.

Application forms will be available shortly from the MCofS website and as ever we will be relying on parents to volunteer to judge and belay at these rounds.
